Star naming — your questions answered

Is this an official star name?

No — and no company can truthfully sell you one. Only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star designations, and it doesn't sell naming rights. Your star's name is recorded in our own register: symbolic, unique to you, and honestly described. We think that's worth more than a false promise.

Is the star real? Can I see it?

Yes. Every star we dedicate is a real, catalogued star from the Hipparcos and Tycho catalogues, with genuine coordinates printed on your documents. Your coordinates sheet includes a chart of the surrounding sky, and your star page shows it among its constellation. Some are visible to the naked eye on a dark night; all can be found with binoculars or a small telescope.

How is my star chosen?

You choose the constellation (or let us surprise you). We then allocate a real star from our curated pool for that constellation — each one catalogued, charted, and never previously dedicated. Once allocated, it's marked as taken in our register and is never offered again.

When will the gift arrive?

Within minutes. Your star is allocated automatically when payment is confirmed, and your confirmation email links to the star page, certificate, and coordinates sheet — ready to print or send straight away. Ordering at 11pm the night before a birthday is, we understand, traditional.

Do you post outside the UK?

Yes. The digital gift is instant anywhere in the world. The printed Gift Pack is posted free within the UK, £8.99 to the EU and £14.99 everywhere else, by Royal Mail International. Overseas packs usually arrive within 5–10 working days.

What if I make a mistake, or change my mind?

Tell us within 14 days and we'll fix the spelling, re-dedicate, or refund you in full — whichever you'd prefer. No forms, no fuss.

Can someone else already have my star?

No. Each star in our register is dedicated once and never resold. Your registry number is yours alone, and anyone can verify the entry on our site, any time.
